Half of the anthracite dial has been excised to reveal the two tourbillons, still leaving enough surface area to display hours, minutes, a central hand for the 1/100th-of-a-second chronograph with its counter running around the circumference of the dial, chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock, chronograph seconds, and 1/10th-of-a-second at 6 o’clock. The power reserve is located at 12 o’clock.

This year Audemars Piguet released a new version of last year's Royal Oak Offshore Diver watch. The new version isn't too different, but now employs Audemars Piguet's forged carbon case. The special case material is produced in-house out of carbon thread that is heated and compressed. The result is a very light and strong case material that suits the sporty look and performance of the ROO Diver very well.

Romain Jerome's relationship with classic video games continues with their newest watch in honor of PAC-MAN. Namco's (today Namco Bandai) PAC-MAN arcade game is probably one of the most recognizable video games in history and originally came out in 1980. Following the success of the Space Invaders watch (hands-on here), Romain Jerome will soon release this high-end limited edition timepiece for those who remember their joystick youth.

Through the rear of the case you can see the exposed movement through the sapphire crystal caseback. The balance wheel is smaller given how fast it moves. It is quite impressive to see it in action. 10 Hz is more than twice as fast as a standard 4 Hz mechanical movement, and twice as fast as a 5 Hz Zenith El Primero movement. How does all that relate to accuracy? To be honest I am not sure. Theoretically it should improve accuracy. By how much it is hard to say. Breguet doesn't publish those details, but I have a feeling that the 7727 should be at least appreciably more accurate than lower frequency movements. In the end, you aren't gonna get a watch like this for perfect timing, but rather for the technology and visuals.

This particular Grande Reverso Duoface watch has an 18k rose gold case. There are steel versions as well but I have to say that gold suits the Reverso very well. I know there are 18k white gold versions, but you might as well just get a steel one at that point. If you go gold, go rose or pink gold for a case like this. The color looks great with both the silvered and black colored dials. The blued steel hands on the silvered dial are classic - and Jaeger-LeCoultre even flame blues their hands in-house.

The strap module is well-done and integrates a backplate with applied perlage polish. You just twist in and lock the case into it. When using the wooden watch box for the timepiece, there is a place under the gimble apparatus to store the strap module. The 46.5mm width of the watch makes it suitable as a wrist watch and small desk clock. I think it would look very handsome in the wooden frame on one's desk.

Inside the watch is a new movement based on Breguet's high frequency research. The 10 hertz movement was debuted in the Breguet Type XXII chronograph watch here. For 2012 the concept is displayed in this non-chronograph caliber 574 DR manually wound movement. It has 60 hours of power reserve and a silicon balance spring and escapement. According to Breguet, there is some magnetic system used to maintain the very fast operation of the balance wheel. Because the hairspring and escapement are in silicon, they are not affected by any magnetic fields.

Inside each Swordfish watch is a Swiss La Joux-Perret automatic chronograph movement - which is a base ETA that in this instance has been modified to have a full 12 hour chronograph with a subsidiary seconds hand built into the 12 hour counter. While not terribly easy to see, there is a running seconds hand. Graham calls this movement their caliber G1710, and it has a power reserve of about 48 hours. The rear of the watch has a tinted sapphire crystal that allows for a view of the darkened movement - in the right light. Despite the dark shades of the movement, there is an appreciable amount of decor on the movement surfaces.

The 45mm wide case is a work of art. I love the rivets on the case that hearken to bodies of older aircraft. Not since the famous Tiffany & Co. Streamerica have I seen rivets that look this nice on a watch. The steel case is brushed and in some models offered in black PVD. The rivets however are polished to standout nicely. You then have the hinged articulating lugs for comfort (and style). Over the dial is a sapphire crystal, and the case is water resistant to 100 meters.

Pull the case to the side and you'll see the perlage decorated back plate. It adds a nicely machined look and frames the rest of the case well. On the wrist the watch is extremely comfortable and feel slimmer than it is. It is very interesting to me how rectangular-shaped watches have a very distinct feel on the wrist compared to round watches.

To be honest, I got excited when the character Jesse (actor Aaron Paul) handed a box over to Walt (actor Bryan Cranston) as a gift for his 51st birthday. While it wasn't clear that the gift was a watch yet, I was pretty sure it was something like that based on the presentation box. Sitting in his car, Walt opens up the lid to reveal a Tag Heuer Monaco. He isn't sure what to make of it, no doubt. Until now, Walt's character has been wearing an inexpensive (but reliable) digital Casio watch. Fitting watch for his character? Not sure to be honest. But it is good enough for Steve McQueen (Monaco watch from Le Mans movie sold for about 0,000), and Stephen Colbert. I wonder where Jesse got the idea?

Please note that the watches you see here aren't the final versions, but prototypes used to showoff the new movements. The final versions will have different dial designs and possibly other changes. Chopard wants to make it clear that this is sneak preview of a new range of movements and collection that will be debuted sometime closer to the Fall of 2012.

It wasn't until I needed to go ring shopping did I really learn to appreciate diamonds. As a guy, I just always assumed diamonds were for women. Sure some men have diamond rings and earrings - but that hardly represents the norm, at least here in the United States. Diamonds are a sure-fire sign of wealth, but they also represent the most basic and arguably unsophisticated form of luxury features - being really shiny. Though it does help their cause that diamonds are inherently rare. What I do however love, are watches. So what happens when you combine these two things?
